Beowulf Racing rebrands to StoneBaker
22-05-2008
Following a successful team expansion this year, Beowulf Racing is being rebranded as StoneBaker Racing. The name is derived from the squad's two owners, Andrew Stone and Richard Baker. Riders Dan Linfoot and Gino Rea, currently third and eighth in the European Superstock 600 Championship respectively, will be running their YZF-R6 Yamahas under the new name from now on with the team's familiar black, white and red colour scheme being retained.
Richard Baker explains why the change has been made: "For the 2008 season Andrew Stone and I developed a new team to compete in both the World and British Superbike Championships. Our aim is to build an attractive platform for sponsorship and grow through the championship classes over the coming years. The new set-up is working well and is creating a much higher level of awareness than we have enjoyed previously, on the back of good early results. This is the right time therefore, to move to the brand name that we want to grow together with our sponsors."
Baker continues: "Beowulf Racing was a successful team, helping to develop riders such as John Laverty and Dennis Hobbs over the last decade. Andrew and I are enjoying the chance to build on this heritage whilst the brand change helps to highlight our new strategy."
Although the name StoneBaker has now been registered with the series organisers, the Beowulf identity won't completely disappear just yet. The logistics of rebranding means the transformation will take place gradually over several stages. The team's bike and support vehicle liveries will change first, with leathers, team clothing and paddock awnings taking slightly longer. The squad's highly popular website has been renamed to www.stonebakerracing.com although the existing Beowulf-based address will continue to point to it.
The team's first public appearance under their new name will take place at the Nurburgring in Germany on the 13-14th June where they will be contesting the fourth round of the European Superstock 600 Championship.
Beowulf take a break from BSB
22-05-2008
Beowulf Racing have decided to pause their activities in the British Supersport Cup for the immediate future. The team had entered the series primarily to develop a machine suitable for entry in the 2009 World Supersport Championship. Having reviewed the situation, the squad now feel that it would be more effective to develop the bike via their overseas testing programme. Joint team owner Richard Baker is currently assisting rider Pat McDougall to source another ride in the British Superbike paddock.

The great race at the new Portimao circuit brings an end to our season in World Superbike Superstock 600, with riders Gino Rea and Dan Linfoot.
The season has been a success with Gino third and Dan fifth in the championship standings following three victories and five additional podiums in total. The results have also acted as a stepping stone to the riders for next season, with both securing high profile, career progressing rides for 2009.
Thank you for all of the emails, calls, texts and visits throughout the year. It has been much appreciated.
